MORE THAN JUST POINTIES

Hey Underwear family 😎, how are we all doing? It has been a minute. Life has been "LIFING", been walking the path back into medical practice.

Feels great to be back.....

Today we talk NIPPLES!!!!!!!!!!! 💃💃💃... pinchings as I often call them in men.

Nipples, they let you know when they get excited- sexually or by temperature.

Before we get to the crux of the matter about these coned shaped "pointies", guilty of making many tickle between their legs or stare in wonder...... lol.

Let's define quickly!!!

The Nipple is defined as a raised region of tissue on the surface of the breast from which, in females, milk leaves the breast through ducts to feed a baby. It is known to have hundreds of nerve endings which make them super sensitive...... ever wondered why it reacts to the slightest thing.... They are also sexual organs, that can give great pleasure when stimulated.

In simpler terms, it is both a SEXUAL and NURTURING structure.

Nipples are typically found in the center of the breast and their color determined by the skin color. The AREOLA is a darker colored area surround the nipple.

Nipples and areolas vary in size. The areola is usually between 3 centimeters and 6 centimeters (1.2 inches to 2.4 inches) across.

Nipples come in different shapes, sizes and texture. They can:
  • point up or down
  • be dark or pale
  • be big or small
  • look different on each breast

There are typically 4 to 8 types of nipples:

FLAT: The entire nipple is flat and blends into the areola.

PROTRUDING: The nipples point outwards and are raised a few millimetres above the areola surface.

INVERTED: The nipples retract inwards.

UNILATERAL INVERTED: Just as the name implies, one nipple is inverted, while the other is raised.

PUFFY: For this, the areola and nipple both look like a slightly raised mound on top of the breast.

BUMPY: All women have bumps around the areola called Montgomery glands, that look like white heads. These are more pronounced in some than others.

HAIRY: This is normal in some women, scanty dark hair which can be fine or coarse are seen around the areola. Can be due to PCOS or other hormonal imbalances.

SUPERNUMERARY: Extra, smaller nipple(s) that look like flat moles or fully formed raised bumps.

Now that we have a fair idea on what nipples are, look like and function as, let's get some
NIPPLE FACTS in....

  • All nipple discharge should be reported to your doctor (except you are breastfeeding)
  • The average nipple size is the size of a ladybug... yep (can be bigger or smaller)
  • Nipple pain is common among women - can be due to infection, hormonal changes, vigorous sucking, allergies or friction from sports bras (joggers nipple), sunburn
  • The size, shape, color and texture of the nipple change over the years and due to many factors- puberty, pregnancy, infection, eczema, cancer etc.
  • Some women can orgasm with nipple stimulation alone
  • Nipple piercings are said to bring positive sexual vibes--- you might want to try if you've been thinking about it
  • Though rare, some men can also produce breast milk, called GALACTORRHEA, usually due to hormonal conditions
  • Some people are born with no nipples. it is called ATHELIA.
On a final note.... some NIPPLE CARE (usually associated with breastfeeding):

Always use warm water to wash your breasts....
Change your bra on a regular basis, at least once in a day....
Check your breasts every day for any changes.
Engage in simple exercises, like arm rotations, a part of your everyday work out to prevent the breasts from sagging during pregnancy... so the nipples don't point downwards----wink

An extra add on-----

While the majority of nipple discharge isn't related to anything serious, it's worth visiting your healthcare provider for peace of mind if you're worried.

Apparently you can get reusable nipples on Amazon.....lol...

So, with these points of mine, I hope not confused you and given you some perspective to a body part not fondly spoken up.

Remember never to forget, you are beautiful just the way you are..

Sending much love..... The Underwear Consultant.
